Who should apply for this program?

Candidates with an MBBS, MD, PhD, DMD, DDS, PharmD, DNP, DPT, RD or equivalent degree with an interest in gaining skills and knowledge in clinical research.

Admissions

I'm interested in the ICRT-Japan program. How can I tell if it is right for me?
The Introduction to Clinical Research Training Japan program is a six-month introductory course for those interested in gaining skills and knowledge in clinical research. Please see our curriculum page for more information on the program and our How to Apply page for eligibility requirements. If you are at the beginning of your career or have some experience in clinical research, this program may be right for you.

Can I defer admission until next year?
No, we do not allow for deferred admission. We do invite you to apply at a future time if you cannot attend the program currently planned.

Do I have to be a resident of the USA to participate?
No, it is unnecessary to be a US resident to apply.

When will I be notified of acceptance?
Applicants are notified of acceptance on a rolling admissions basis. Typically, applicants will be notified of their application status within four to six weeks of application submission.

Academic Requirements

Can I get academic credit for this program?
This program does not provide academic credits.

What if I don't have internet access?
The majority of this course is conducted online; it is necessary to have internet access in order to complete this course.

What is the time commitment for this course?
Approximately 8 to 10 hours per week.

Attendance Requirements

I don't want to take this course online, can I attend the classes on campus?
We do not offer classes on campus. The ICRT-Japan program is a blended-learning course which is largely web-based, with eight days of in-person workshops.

Do I have to travel to the US to attend this course?
No, the majority of this course will be online. The two mandatory workshops will be held January 13-16, 2018 and July 13-16, 2018 in Okinawa. It is necessary to travel to Japan to attend these workshops. Students are responsible for all necessary travel documents required to attend the workshops in Okinawa, Japan. HMS will provide letters of support for visas upon request.

What if I don't attend one or all of the workshops?
Attendance at the workshops is mandatory. If you miss one of the workshops you will not receive a Certificate of Completion from HMS. Please see our academic and attendance requirements for reference.

Scholarships

When will I be notified if I receive a scholarship?
If you have applied for a scholarship, you will be notified of your scholarship status by November.

What does the scholarship cover?
Scholarships can cover partial or full tuition. Most scholarships are partial, covering at least 50% of tuition. A small number of full scholarships will be awarded. Scholarships do not cover associated costs such as textbooks, software, travel, and accommodations. 

Tuition

What does the cost of tuition include?
The $6,000 tuition covers the cost of the ICRT-Japan program. Stata software and textbooks are not included in the program cost. Travel, lodging, and meals are not included in the program cost.

If I find I can no longer attend the program, can I get a refund?
Once you are accepted in the program and after your payment is made, no refund is permitted unless the program is canceled.

Can I pay the tuition in installments?
In some cases, tuition can be paid via installments. After acceptance, please email icrt@hms.harvard.edu for information.

I am not able to afford tuition; can I get a fee waiver?
We do not offer tuition fee waivers. If you are eligible, you may apply for one of our available scholarships.
